Take your retail store online, the right way

You've built a store people trust in person. An online channel should extend that, not water it down into a clunky template with half your inventory missing. We build ecommerce for brick-and-mortar retailers nationwide - including the first-ever online store for Balliets, a luxury retailer that spent 90 years selling exclusively in person before we took them onto Shopify.

The Reality

What it actually takes to add an online store to a retail business

Plenty of retailers have tried the DIY route: a weekend on a website builder, a few products uploaded, then silence. The store technically exists but nothing sells, because an online channel is more than a website. Here's what the real project looks like:

The platform

The foundation everything runs on - checkout, payments, taxes, shipping rules, and the connection to how your floor already operates. Get this wrong and every day of running the store is harder than it should be.

Inventory & product data

The unglamorous work that decides everything: products structured with variants, sizes, and collections, tagged so customers can actually find things, and synced so you never sell what you don't have.

Photography & presentation

Online, the photo is the merchandise. Your products need to look as good on a phone screen as they do on your shelves, and the site around them has to hold the same standard your storefront does.

Fulfillment & operations

Who picks, who packs, what shipping costs, whether you offer local pickup - the workflows have to fit your staff and your hours, or the online store becomes a burden instead of a channel.

We handle all four as one project, and we've written a plain-English guide to taking your retail store online if you want to see the whole picture before we talk.

Proof

Ninety years of in-person retail, now selling online

Balliets is an Oklahoma City institution - a luxury fashion retailer that built its reputation over 90 years of in-person service, without ever selling a product online. When they decided to add an ecommerce channel, the bar was simple and brutal: the online store had to meet the standard their customers walk in expecting.

We built it on Shopify. That meant structuring an inventory of designer apparel and accessories into collections and variants that make sense to shop, running the product imports so the catalog went live clean instead of trickling in for months, and designing workflows around how their floor actually operates - so the team that runs the store in person can run it online too. The store is live at balliets.com, and the full build is documented in our Balliets case study.

The point isn't that we can build a store. It's that we can take a retailer with real history, real inventory complexity, and a real reputation to protect, and get them selling online without compromising any of it.

Platform

Why we build retail stores on Shopify

For brick-and-mortar retailers, Shopify is our platform of choice, and it's not close. It's hosted and secure, so you run a store instead of maintaining a server. Its POS connects your floor and your website into one inventory. And the ecosystem around it - shipping, email, reviews, local pickup - is the deepest in retail. We tie it together from our Shopify development practice, headquartered in Oklahoma City and working with retailers nationwide.

Once the store is live, the next question is how people find it. Our digital advertising team runs Google and Meta campaigns built for retail, with the store and the ads working as one system.

Pricing

What it costs to take your store online

Ecommerce builds are scoped by catalog size, design ambition, and integrations, so we don't publish a one-size price - but we'll give you real numbers early. Focused builds start at $5,000; most full retail stores with meaningful catalogs run $10,000 and up. Shopify's own plans add roughly $39/month plus payment processing.

Every project starts with a free build consultation: a conversation about your products, your operations, and your goals. We scope it together, then you get a written plan, timeline, and fixed quote within 24 hours. If your current site needs work too, we often pair the store with a website redesign so the whole online presence launches at the same standard.

FAQ

Questions retailers ask before going online

How long does it take to launch an online store?

Most retail ecommerce builds launch in 4-8 weeks. The biggest variable is product data - if your inventory is already in a POS or spreadsheet, we move fast; if the catalog needs structuring from scratch, we build that time into the quote so there are no surprises.

Do I need professional photography for every product?

You need good photography for the products you want to sell online, and that doesn't have to mean all of them on day one. Many retailers launch with their best-selling categories shot well, then expand the catalog. We'll help you plan a launch scope that's realistic for your team.

Can my staff run the store, or will I need to hire someone?

Your existing team can run it - that's a design requirement, not a hope. We build the workflows around how your store already operates, hand off with a full walkthrough, and stay available for 90 days after launch. Ongoing monthly plans are there if you'd rather keep us on call.

Will online sales conflict with my in-store inventory?

Not if the store is built right. Shopify keeps one inventory across your floor and your website, so a sale in either place updates both. Structuring that sync correctly is one of the main things you're paying a professional build for.
